Tarot can be used as a method for speaking directly with the spirit realm.
How to read your own cards for Spiritual Guidance
This is a practice you can try for yourself anytime. Just grab your deck, use which ever one you have or feels best for this type of reading. You may want to choose a Tarot deck or an Oracle deck. Now draw some cards. One at a time so you can sit with each one and fully absorb its message. For this reading feel free to use your decks guidebook to channel messages from spirit, or to allow the message to come through you, channeled directly the universe, God, or whichever belief system you adhere to.
Sample reading for Spiritual Guidance:
A lot can be gained by reading just a single card. Here is one way to read the 6 of Cups, in the context of spiritual guidance.
The 6 of Cups: Gentle nostalgia meets soul level healing.
The 6 of Cups invites you to revisit the softer corners of your inner world. Explore memories, kindnesses, and simple delights that once felt like home. Spirit is asking you to remember the things that once nourished your heart as a child.
Return to feelings and values from earlier in life that were pure and true.
Practice kindness through small acts of compassion toward yourself and others to restore spiritual balance.
The past holds lessons, not chains. Invite the blessings of the past into your current journey.
Connect with your soul family for spiritual companionship.
Invite the guides or archetypal energies from your past to support your present growth.
Affirmation: “I welcome the gentle wisdom of my past and allow its kindness to guide my soul now.”
Reclaim simple practices. Think of routines you loved as a child or youth. Engage in play, creative ritual, and gratitude for small wonders. Reintroducing these simple things can often refresh your connection to Spirit more than complex techniques.
Forgive with tenderness. Old hurts may surface so they can be healed. Approach them with childlike gentleness rather than harsh self-judgement.
Receive guidance from familiar sources. Dreams, ancestral impressions, or recurring symbols from earlier chapters of life could carry messages. Pay attention to what feels comforting rather than intellectually impressive.
Balance reverie with presence. While revisiting sweet memories feeds the soul, anchor yourself with grounding rituals (breath, nature, simple prayers) so you aren’t stuck in the past.
Practical suggestions
Create a soul memory altar: include a photo, a smell (tea, incense), a small token that evokes a formative joy. Spend some time lighting a candle and remembering this soft memory.
Journaling prompt: “Which childhood practice made me feel connected to something larger than myself?” Try it and pick one element to reintroduce this week.
A small forgiveness ritual. Write one past hurt that still bothers you out on paper. Read it aloud and offer yourself compassion and comfort for feeling hurt, then burn or tear the paper as a symbol of releasing and forgiving.
Connect with someone who feels like soul family. A brief conversation or even shared silence can open unexpected spiritual doors.
Here is my Spiritual Guidance Card Draw
I have been dealing with some grief over a pets untimely death that has left me feeling lost and disoriented. I keep experiencing these moments of realization that wash over me again and again. Realizing what has happened…she’s gone…so much sorrow. Followed by regret, like maybe there was something I could have done differently to save her. I am looking for relief from this heaviness and sorrow.
The card I have drawn is Bhakti.
I will allow the imagery to deliver a message, instead of looking it up.
On the top of this card is the Sun, Illumination. This is the light I am seeking to lift me from the dark situation I have been experiencing. The butterflies are heading into the light. They represent renewal, transformation, rebirth. That is where I find myself. The light from this situation for me, is that I have rediscovered a powerful energy source and strength that resides within me. I have access to a pool of healing energy that I can access to overcome this and other trials I am facing.
I’ve been running on adrenaline for days. Little sleep. Eating poorly. Focused on helping, my family and my sweet pup. Also I am overcome with grief. Why did this have to happen?
Maybe this event was needed for her journey. Maybe I helped her transition easier from suffering to freedom. Freeing her spirit. Her name was Sky, fitting for this card. That is me on the bottom, aiding her passage gently. Two sides. One feeling the most horrendous grief, the other feeling such deep relief that her trauma is over.
In order for a caterpillar to make it’s transition to butterfly it must first completely dissolve out of it’s previous form. Temporary suffering is sometimes necessary to facilitate transition, rebirth and growth.
Releasing my heavy emotions is what my spirit needs today. Rest & Release.
RIP Sweet Sky. I will always love you. You were the most beautiful girl in the world.
The purpose of this reading is not for predicting the future, but for healing, releasing, growing, and discovery. For finding your joy, peace, abundance or natural state of being. Whatever it is you need along your journey.
