How to do the Elemental Tarot Spread for yourself:
There are 3 ways to do this reading.
First way is to divide the deck into 5 groups, major arcana and 4 suits, then draw one card from each pile.
Second way, (if you don’t want to spend time dividing the deck), you can simply draw cards until you have one major and one from each suit and drop them in their place.
Third method is to draw random cards for each slot and allow them to embody the element and be influenced by the elemental energy.
Shuffle your deck and focus on your question.
Place one Major Arcana card in the center to represent the self or the situation. Then lay four cards around it in the positions below — each corresponds to one of the classical elements and a dimension of experience.
Card Positions
Center (Major Arcana) — The Self / The Situation: core theme, soul lesson, or central energy influencing you and your situation at the current time and place.
Left — Water (Emotions): emotions, relationships, intuition, your inner needs and the emotional currents affecting you now.
Right — Fire (Action): passion, drive, ambition, creativity, impetus to act and ways you can transform your situation through taking action.
Top — Air (Mind): thoughts, ideas, communication, intellect, decisions, mental patterns shaping your situation and ways to flip them for positive growth.
Bottom — Earth (The Physical Realm): material conditions, resources, stability, health, practical foundations and actionable steps to take in the world today.
Reading tips
Begin by interpreting the center Major Arcana as yourself. Ask how this energy colors your current situation.
Read each elemental card in relation to the center: What feelings does Water reveal? What does Fire urge you to do? How does the Air card modify or challenge my situation? Where is Earth offering support or resistance?
Look for element-element interactions: For example conflicting Fire and Water suggest inner tension between desire and feeling; strong Earth and Air may point to practical plans needing clearer thinking.
If an element is indicating conflict or difficulty, take note. This can indicate an area needing attention or development.
Reversals (if you use them) can highlight blocks, internalized energy, or lessons not yet integrated.
Finish by looking at the overall picture: what actionable insight arises when you bring all five positions together?
Is there one Element that really stands out for you? Pay attention to this card, and heed its message.
