Todd Alcott's Sci-Fi Tarot Deck Review

Todd Alcott's Sci-Fi Tarot

Todd Alcott's Sci-Fi Tarot is a whimsical tarot deck from The Unemployed Philosophers Guild that blasts traditional symbolism into orbit. The Sci-Fi Tarot is based on the Rider Waite, but using a retro space theme. It includes 78 futuristic Tarot cards, 22 Major Arcana, space-traveling court card characters and 4 suits with a fun twist, using laser guns, laser beams, rockets and test tubes.

The deck comes in a cute book-box designed to look like a worn hardcover library book, and includes a basic little white book.

The Guidebook is pretty basic, offering humorous Tarot meanings with a sci-fi twist. The book is small and concise, with just enough text to give a beginner a good idea what each card means, framed in the context of the RWS Tarot.

The Major Arcana begins with the Fool, who is of course an astronaut leaping out into the unknown expanse of space. The Lovers depicts a woman and alien caught in a problematic affair, torn between their love for each other and the well-being of the galaxy.

The Devil is a master computer, The Tower has been struck by an Alien invasion. I love the little captions on each card, and the comic book themed designs. This is a really fun deck! If you are looking something playful and light, with a more masculine feeling to it, this is for you.

Each card reimagines classic tarot archetypes as retro-futuristic sci-fi characters and scenes, with starship captains, androids, alien landscapes, and cosmic phenomena, while keeping the core meanings intact for readings.

Why the Sci-Fi Tarot is great

It has a playful aesthetic, with bold, colorful artwork and tongue-in-cheek details that make this deck really lighthearted and fun. It is also very accessible for beginners. Familiar tarot structures are preserved, so newcomers can learn without losing the archetypal foundations.

This is fun for fans of sci-fi and pop culture. The deck’s clever references and imaginative redesigns make it a great gift or conversation piece. This deck is also versatile for readings. It works well for daily draws, for adding a wild card to your reading, or for giving a fun quirky twist to your traditional spreads.

Who will love it

  • Tarot beginners who appreciate a modern, engaging visual approach.

  • Sci-fi fans looking for a tarot deck that speaks their language.

  • Collectors seeking a novelty deck with polished design and humor.

  • Readers who enjoy introducing lightness and creativity into their practice.

Tips for using the Sci-Fi Tarot

Let the sci‑fi scenes imagery and characters of this deck inspire unique interpretations and spark intuitive readings.

  • What does that laser gun evoke from your childhood memories?

  • What does the android’s posture or the planetary landscape suggest to you?

Create a themed spread, such as a “Mission Briefing” three-card spread (Objective / Obstacles / Tools) or “Starship Crew” layout assigning roles to different cards. Combine this deck with classic meanings from a traditional tarot guidebook if you want to ground the space-themed visuals in established interpretations.

Overall, Todd Alcott's Sci‑Fi Tarot is a delightful mash-up of Sci-Fi charm and Tarot wisdom that will bring a playful element to every reading.
