Tarot For Mindfulness
Tarot For Mindfulness

Finding Calm Amidst the Shuffle

Tarot isn't just about predicting the future or uncovering hidden secrets. It can also be a powerful tool for cultivating mindfulness and deepening your present-moment awareness. When you approach your Tarot practice with a mindful attitude, each card becomes a gentle nudge to pause, reflect, and connect more fully with your inner world.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is simply the practice of being present in the moment, and quietly paying attention without judgment. It's about noticing what's happening inside you (thoughts, feelings, body sensations) and around you (sounds, sights, smells) with curiosity and gentle acceptance rather than getting swept away by reaction.

Being mindful means taking a break from being busy with things to do. Paying attention to the ways your mind is flowing, and stopping to consider if your current path or activity is useful in a meaningful way, or just something you feel you should be doing, for whatever reason. Consider what ways you may be simply running on autopilot, instead of moving with intention.

Tarot Practice for Daily Mindfulness

Pull one card as your ‘Mindfulness Guide’ for the day.

Place it somewhere visible and revisit its message when your mind starts to wander.

Using Tarot for Mindfulness

Tarot can be used as a tool for mindfulness, by helping you to stay anchored in the present moment. Often it can be challenging to slow down and put aside the distractions. Set yourself up for success by choosing a time free from obligations or interruptions.

Choose a space that feels calm and relaxing. Outside where it is calm and quiet such as your garden or patio, or choose an inside space that feels cozy, safe and comforting.

Using Tarot for Mindfulness

Choose a deck that has a calm energy. Shuffle your deck slowly and deliberately, feeling each card between your fingers.

Remember, you are not asking the cards to answer a question, or to solve a problem. The goal is to simply allow the cards to reveal whatever insight may serve you best. Become a vessel, or transmitter for receiving the wisdom that is seeking you out. Ideas that are trying to reach you, but you may be unaware of because your busy mind and life have drowned them out.

Draw as many cards as you feel compelled to pull from the deck. There is no right way to do this. It is simply a way of clearing space for the universal wisdom to flow through you, inspiring ideas, clearing away doubts, fears or old stagnant energy that no longer serves your highest path.

By weaving Tarot into your mindfulness practice, you can transform Tarot reading into a healing therapy for your soul. This practice can offer clarity, calm, and a touch of magic to your everyday life.

Mindfulness Tarot Spread

Mindfulness Tarot Reading

Take a deep breath and set a calm intention. Maybe it’s to understand your current emotional state or simply to ground yourself.

Draw a single card, resist the urge to dive into a full spread. One card at a time will focus your attention without overwhelming your senses.

Observe the card without judgement. Look at the card’s imagery, colours, and symbols. Note what thoughts and feelings arise without trying to label them as good or bad.

Journal your reaction, only if you feel compelled to. Write down your impressions and how the card’s message relates to your life right now. journaling helps you track your growth and deepen self-awareness.

Let this card’s energy guide you into calmness. You may wish to draw another card or 2 to explore the energy further.

Mindfulness Tarot Spread

Draw 3 cards:

Card 1: Intention to focus on in meditation.

Card 2: What energy needs to be released?

Card 3: This is a card for inspiring action following the reading as you move into your day.

Cards That Encourage Mindfulness

  • The Hanged Man: Encourages surrender and seeing things from a new perspective—perfect for practising patience and presence.

  • Temperance: Speaks to balance and harmony within, urging you to find calm in the chaos.

  • The Hermit: Invites quiet reflection and introspection, ideal for deepening your mindful moments.

Key aspects of mindfulness

  • Present-moment awareness: Bringing attention to now instead of ruminating about the past or worrying about the future.

  • Non-judgmental attitude: Observing experiences without labeling them "good" or "bad."

  • Intentionality: Choosing to focus rather than being driven by habit.

  • Openness and curiosity: Exploring inner and outer experience with interest.

Simple mindfulness practices

Practice mindful breathing. Focus on the breath for 1–5 minutes, noticing inhales and exhales. When the mind wanders, gently return to the breath.

Do a body scan. Slowly move attention through the body, noticing sensations without trying to change them.

Mindful walking, also known as a walking meditation. Walk slowly, being aware of staying in the present moment. You may wish to focus on the beauty around you, or simply notice each step, the contact of feet with ground, and sensations of movement.

Notice your thoughts and consider how they function. Label passing thoughts as “thinking,” “planning,” “worrying” or “ideas” and let them go like clouds.

Benefits of mindfulness

Mindfulnes reduces stress, anxiety, and depressive rumination. It improves attention, focus, and emotional regulation. Mindfulness practices can enhance self-awareness and compassion, improve sleep and overall well-being. Taking time for this can lead you to ideas taking inspired steps towards a life the peace and joy that you deserve.

Tips:

  • Be consistent rather than perfect: short daily practices beat occasional long ones.

  • Use reminders: anchor mindfulness to daily routines (brushing teeth, waiting in line).

  • Try guided meditations or mindfulness apps if you prefer direction.

Mindfulness isn’t about emptying your mind or achieving a permanently calm state. It’s a skill of noticing experience as it is, which gradually shifts your relationship with thoughts and feelings. As you give yourself more space to just be, you will discover greater peace, and less reactivity.

Tarot Alchemy
Tarot Alchemy

The suit of Wands represent the idea of alchemy - ideas, energy, transformation.

Alchemy is the art of transformation—both of materials and of the self.

Alchemy is a mystical practice dating back thousands of years, where ancient seekers aimed to turn base metals into gold, discover the elixir of life, and unlock hidden wisdom. More than just chemistry, alchemy is also a symbolic journey, a dance between spirit and matter, light and shadow.

It’s about finding magic in the mundane and seeing potential for change everywhere—much like how each Tarot card holds the power to shift perspectives and reveal new paths.

In Tarot, alchemy is the process of turning challenges into growth, confusion into clarity, and everyday moments into golden insights.

Here’s a spread to use for accessing your own power of creation.

Alchemy Tarot Spread

This spread helps you turn your experiences into opportunities. Tap into the elements to ignite transformation. Choose a card deck that feels earthy or transformative. For this reading I have chosen The Unveiled Tarot by Jesse Lonergan

Alchemy Tarot Spread

Draw 5 cards and lay them out like this

How to Use It

Shuffle your deck focusing on the question: “How can I transform my experiences into my gold?”

Lay out 5 cards in a line. You can place them in order you have drawn them or decide which card best fits each slot, whatever sparks your magic.

These 5 Cards represent your Elements of Transformation

Card 1. Lead (Current Challenge)

What heavy weight or obstacle do you need to recognize?
This card reveals the "base metal" in your life begging for transformation.

Card 2. Salt (Grounding)

What keeps you stable and anchored?
Salt symbolizes your foundation—what you stand on while you’re evolving.

Card 3. Sulfur (Passion & Drive)

What sparks your fire?
This card keynotes your inner flame, the energy that fuels your transformation journey.

Card 4. Mercury (Flexibility & Change)

How can you flow and adapt?
Mercury is fluid and quicksilver—this card shows where you need to embrace change.

Card 5. Gold (The Outcome / Transformation)

What golden result awaits when the alchemy is complete?
The final card reveals the pure gold of your efforts.

Reflect on how each element interacts. Where does your Lead turn into Gold? What lights your fire? What’s blocking the flow of Mercury?

Tarot Spread for Alchemy

Here is a sample reading I have drawn for myself.

Card 1 is the Three of Wands which reflects my current path. Trying to figure out a financial hurdle, what to do? How to stay focussed in working towards growing my Tarot business and achieving my technical goals.

Card 2 is the Queen of Pentacles - the earth mother, reminding my to spend time in nature and stay grounded in the physical world to maintain my health and prosperity.

Card 3 is the Ace of Wands, just looking at this card fires up my ideas, and inspiration. It send me a message to keep the flame burning that I have lit and to keep following my passion and joy.

The 4th card is the Wheel of Fortune, a reminder that unseen elements will always influence my journey in ways I can not predict. This one suggests to stay flexible in the face of changes, open to new ideas. All the Tarot Animals have come together on this card. They are all at the table. playing together. Reading this one to suggest I should always incorporate different elements together, never knowing which one will win.

Card 5 is the Two of Wands as the outcome or transformation, This one feels exciting, showing two doors, each holding an unknown prize. because sometimes the outcome is a surprise. One that may be even better than can be imagined. So keep open to new horizons and possibilities that arise.

I love how this reading has come full circle, the last card leading me right back the beginning of the spread (Three of Wands)

Why We Love This Spread

What is Alchemy?

Alchemy is an ancient practice that blends elements of science, philosophy, and mysticism. It is traditionally known for its goal of transforming base metals into noble ones like gold, but it also symbolizes personal and spiritual transformation. Practitioners of alchemy sought not only material wealth but the deeper quest for enlightenment and the secrets of life itself. This tradition bridges the gap between the physical world and the metaphysical, offering rich symbolism and insights.

Tarot Cards for Alchemy

The Magician

The Magician is the alchemist of the tarot deck, weaving together the elements of earth, air, fire, and water with a playful flick of his wand. He’s the master of manifestation, reminding you that the power to create magic lies within your hands. When The Magician appears, it’s a call to channel your skills, focus your intentions, and transform ideas into reality.

On his table, you’ll spot the four Tarot symbols representing the classical elements:

  • 🜃 Earth: Stability, practicality, and material matters.

  • 🜁 Air: Intellect, communication, and ideas.

  • 🜂 Fire: Action, energy, and passion.

  • 🜄 Water: Emotion, intuition, and flow.

These symbols correspond to the tools the Magician wields—cup, wand, sword, and pentacle—and suggest his mastery over all elements. He holds the power of transformation and creation, and the ability to channel universal energies to manifest dreams into reality.

With his gesture the Magician reminds us that what we seek to create in the world is an inspiration that comes from the Higher Self. He is a visual expression of his axiom but it might be more correct to change it to, “as above, do below.” He represents skill—both physical and verbal. He is agile, athletic, eloquent, and confident. He is a messenger of the divine but also a trickster. Alchemically, he represents the initial unity of the elements with the spirit hidden inside.
— Robert M Place - The Alchemical Tarot

Wands - Alchemizing the Fire Within

The suit of Wands is the blazing heart of the Tarot deck, embodying pure, alchemical fire. This fiery energy represents the spark of creation—thoughts, ideas, and emotional passion—all waiting to be harnessed and transformed.

Wands invite you to tap into your inner flame, where inspiration flickers and motivation burns bright. They urge you to take that first step, to fan your ambitions into a roaring blaze of action.

Imagine your mind as a crucible where raw thoughts become powerful forces, fueled not just by logic, but by the emotional heat of your desires and dreams.
When you draw a wand card, think of it as your call to ignite the creative furnace. It’s about harnessing scattered energy into focused intention. Whether that means brainstorming new ideas, lighting a fire under a stalled project, or connecting deeply with your passions, Wands push you to become the master of your own fiery element.

Wands from the Tarot of Curious Creatures deck

Harness this energy wisely.

At times events in our lives can stir up the fire within, causing anger or frustration to rise. Alchemizing this energy into a chosen direction can fuel positive growth and energized us to tackle challenges that may otherwise seem daunting or overwhelming.

Passion without direction can burn out fast, but a well-tended flame can illuminate new paths, warm your spirit, and forge your unique destiny. The suit of Wands reminds you that your thoughts and emotions are powerful catalysts—when aligned, they alchemize the fire inside you into unstoppable momentum.

Alchemy symbols on tarot cards add a rich layer of meaning that ties the mystical art of tarot to the ancient wisdom of transformation and creation. They are visual cues that deepen your understanding of the card’s energy and message.

The Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune card displays the sigils of sulphur, mercury, and salt nestled within its inner circle. These three symbols represent the primary substances—think of them as the cosmic bricks—from which the universe builds all matter. also included is the sigil for water, completing the 4 elements.

  • Sulphur stands for the fiery, active essence—the spark that ignites passion and drives action. It’s the blazing energy urging you forward.

  • Mercury embodies fluidity and transformation, like a shimmering river flowing through the landscape of your mind. It’s the quicksilver messenger, bridging gaps and opening portals to new possibilities, helping you shift gears when change is the only constant.

  • Salt anchors things with its stabilizing power. It’s the grounding force, the pinch of reality that keeps dreams from floating away like dandelion seeds. Salt preserves wisdom, balances the elements within, and ensures your fiery passions and transformative insights have a solid foundation to grow.

  • Water is the solvent of life, the emotional ocean where all elements mingle. It cleanses, nurtures, and connects, flowing effortlessly between states—liquid, ice, steam—mirroring our own waves of feelings and intuition.

Wheel of fortune alchemy

Together, Sulphur’s fire, Mercury’s adaptability, Salt’s steadiness, and Water’s fluidity create a beautifully balanced dance of energies. A mystical recipe that fuels cycles of change, transformation, and evolution symbolized by the ever-turning Wheel of Fortune. So, when this card shows up in your reading, prepare for a cosmic spin where forces of creation and transformation are at play—alchemy in motion!

Using these alchemy symbols in reading tarot invites you to connect not only with the card’s immediate meaning but also with the ancient cycle of transformation that underpins the universe and your personal growth. So, the next time you see these shapes on your cards, think of the magic happening beneath the surface—alchemy in action!

Using Tarot for Manifestation
Using Tarot for Manifestation

Tarot can be an ideal tool to use for manifesting your dreams into reality. Here’s how.

Manifesting Tarot Spread

Things you will need for this exercise:

  • A Tarot or Oracle deck that strongly resonates with you.

  • Pick one that feels really joyful, positive and light, or one that makes you feel a bit expansive or strong and powerful!

  • A quiet place to focus on your intentions.

  • A journal or notebook for writing down your desired outcome or goal.

The first step to take is creative visualization.

Tarot for Manifesting

Clearly identify what it is you want to manifest. Now write it down. Spend a few minutes visualizing yourself living the desired outcome.
Notice how it makes you feel. By simply imaging your goal and placing your focus on it, you are taking the first step to achieving your dream.

Manifest your Desired Life Tarot Spread:

Get out your Tarot deck and draw 5 cards.

These will represent the path you take for manifesting your desired life and the guides who will help you get there.

Flip over your cards and place them in a row.

Choose one of the cards as your light card.

The light card should be the most positive one you have drawn. It is simply a card that makes you feel inspired to move forward, full of love or grateful for something in your life now. Take a minute to steep yourself in the emotions of this card in relation to your dreams and desires. Allow yourself to be swept away by joy and gratitude.

Tarot for Manifesting your dreams

I am using the Cosmic Slumber Tarot, I chose the Star and Ten of Swords as my light and shadow cards.

Choose one of the cards as your shadow card.

This is a card that represents the darkness that holds you back from moving towards your desired life. It should remind you of the “I can’ts.” Those nagging thoughts that say its too hard, or I don’t deserve this, or I don’t know how. Now take a minute to imagine yourself gathering those limiting beliefs up and blowing them away in the wind. 💨

Now the remaining 3 Tarot cards are your guiding forces. Think of them as spirit guides, who have a message to tell you in relation to achieving your desired life. They may bring hope, ideas or inspiration to your reading. For example:

If you draw The Star you may feel inspired.
This card shines with hope and inspiration. It encourages you to keep faith in your dreams and trust that the universe is aligning in your favor. The Star reminds you that healing and renewal are on the horizon—believe in your inner light and let it guide you forward.

If you draw The Emperor you may be feel strong and empowered.
Prepare to embrace a strong sense of authority and control in your life. This powerful figure symbolizes stability, structure, and leadership, encouraging you to take charge with confidence and wisdom.

If you draw The Chariot you may feel a strong desire to take action towards your dreams.
Powerful and determined, The Chariot urges you to take control of your path. Success comes through focus, discipline, and confident action. Harness your will, overcome obstacles, and charge ahead knowing that your desire for achievement fuels your journey.

If you draw The Empress you may feel the nurturing force of abundance surrounding you
Fertility, creativity, and abundance flow from The Empress. She advises nurturing your ideas and relationships, tending to yourself with kindness and care. Growth is inevitable when you create space for your dreams to blossom—embrace your creative energy and watch your ideal life unfold.

These are my guides along the way. The Empress, The High Priestess and The Hierophant.

The Empress reminds me there is abundance all around. The High Priestess whispers “follow your intuition to find the way”
The Hierophant suggests that I seek out teachers or guides to learn from, or follow the path that others have taken.

Your spirited guides may tell a story of hope, action, or nurturing. Follow their wisdom and step boldly towards the life you desire.

This takes us to the Most Important Part: Taking Inspired Action!

If you find yourself feeling inspired by any part of this exercise, the most important thing to do is Take Action Now.
Taking inspired action is the thing that will propel you forward and line up your actions with the Universe.

If an idea strikes you, follow it. If you suddenly feel an urge to work on a project, go for it. Do it now while the motivation is strong. Let yourself be carried along by passion and inspiration.

Tip: If you have an idea of what you want to do, but don’t know how, just model the success of others.
Choose someone who has already achieved what you want to do, and copy the actions they took. You don’t have to make everything up yourself, someone else has has already done it, so learn by their example to create your own successful path.

Employ the Law of Attraction

The more time you spend focusing on your goal, the more you align your thoughts and energy with the Universe’s frequency. Using the Law of Attraction isn’t just wishful thinking—it’s about consistently envisioning what you want as if it’s already yours. Picture your goal vividly in your mind’s eye, feel the emotions of accomplishing it, and maintain unwavering belief. The Universe loves clarity and commitment. So, keep your focus sharp, your mindset positive, and watch opportunities and synchronicities start to flow your way like magic.

Self Care Tarot Spread

Tarot as a form of Self-Soothing

Self-soothing is a concept I was unfamiliar with in my younger days, although I engaged in it a lot, mostly through less than healthy means such as alcohol. It wasn't until someone coined the phrase for me that it dawned on me what my behavior was really about. Just soothing myself.

This world has a tendency to leave us frazzled and exhausted. Many are also carrying a heavy load of trauma from the past. Struggling to achieve something, to reach our goals. The routine of rushing around from one daily task to the next leaves precious little time to just be.

We all need time to reflect on the day and to consider what we are doing and why.

Which is where Tarot comes in. While I try to meditate often, my overactive mind is often difficult to settle. Thoughts rushing in, either ruminations of the past, or excited new plans and ideas for the future. Mundane thoughts like, I should really wash some laundry now…Gotta get going on my taxes. Prompting me to leave my seat and rush around in a new flurry of activity.

“Simply witness these thoughts go by, but do not attach.” was the advice I’ve recieved. But some days this is easier said than done.

My Tarot practice helps with this. When I am unable to quiet my mind, Tarot offers a way to focus and direct my thoughts in a positive way. It gives me a point of focus outside of my own thoughts. A new perspective. It's soothing. Like talking with a dear old friend who never judges, but simply listens and offers gentle suggestions to nudge me in the direction that I want to go. The Tarot leaves space for me to soothe myself and to consider what I really desire and want in my life amidst the chaos of demands presented by others and by my own physical needs.

Today I prompt you to take a few quiet, reflective moments to yourself. Slow your thoughts, and think about what area of your life requires soothing. Draw some cards to reflect on this. Ask questions like: Is there something I could give up, or move towards that would help me to feel better.

Today’s suggested reading - try your own self care Tarot spread for soothing your mind. Make this your focus. Just feeling better. We could all use a few moments in the day where we feel better, try using the Tarot to lean in that direction. Your nervous system will thank you.

This self care tarot spread is simple - draw 4 cards. Place them according to how you feel, creating a narrative that inspires you towards feeling better. The four cards:

  1. What do I want/need?

  2. Message from my higher self

  3. What should I let go of?

  4. What should I focus on?

Here’s my spread for the day:

  1. I need a fresh start, new ideas, I long for adventure.

  2. The message I receive is to remain positive & hopeful. Good news is on the way

  3. The Moon is asking me to release my fears and trauma.

  4. I should focus on the work I enjoy doing to keep my mind directed in a positive way, and to move closer towards my goals.

Try your own draw if you are in need of some self care and encouragement from the Universe. This spread is best done with an physical deck, as you will be placing the drawn cards in the slots that feel best to you and the messages will be highly personal. But you can certainly use the virtual deck if you don't have you own. If you are new to Tarot and dont know the card meanings that’s ok too. Just read intuitively based on what you feel when looking at each card.

Self-Care Ritual:

  • Daily Affirmation: Start each day with a positive affirmation that resonates with you, such as “I am worthy of love and care.”

  • Creative Expression: Find a creative outlet—draw, write, or dance! Let your energies flow freely.

  • Nature Walk: Spend time outdoors, even if it’s just for a quick walk. Nature can rejuvenate your spirit!

  • Mindfulness Practice: Dedicate a few minutes daily to mindfulness through meditation or deep breathing exercises.

Post your reading in the comments below if you would like to share.

What is Intuition?

What is intuition?

We have all heard this many times when learning to read Tarot cards, “Just use your intuition.” but what exactly does this mean? What is an intuitive person, and how does one tap into that inner wisdom…

What is Intuition?

Intuition is that quiet inner voice, a subtle knowing that doesn’t come from logic or reasoning but from a deeper part of ourselves. When people say, “Just use your intuition” in Tarot reading, they’re encouraging you to trust this inner sense rather than overthink the cards or rely only on traditional meanings.

An intuitive person is someone who’s in tune with their feelings, impressions, and subtle energies around them. They pick up on nuances others might miss—whether it’s a fleeting image, a sudden feeling, or an unexpected insight. Intuition bypasses the conscious mind and taps directly into inner wisdom, often revealing truths that rational thought can't grasp.

To tap into your intuition, start by quieting your mental chatter. Relax, breathe deeply, and tune into the present moment. When you draw a card, don’t just read the dictionary meaning; instead, pay attention to the images, colours, and your immediate emotional response. Ask yourself: what does this card feel like? Do any memories, symbols, or ideas suddenly flicker in your mind?

Practising mindfulness and journaling your impressions can strengthen your intuitive muscle. Over time, you’ll notice your gut feelings becoming clearer and more reliable. Trusting your intuition doesn’t mean ignoring logic—it means honouring both heart and mind as partners in understanding the Tarot’s messages.

What is an intuitive person?

What is an intuitive person?

An intuitive person is someone who naturally senses or understands things without the need for conscious reasoning. They often pick up on subtle cues, feelings, or insights that others might miss, almost like a sixth sense guiding their decisions.

Is intuition something we’re born with? Partly, yes—some people seem to have a natural knack for tuning into their inner voice or the vibes around them from an early age. But intuition is also very much a skill that can be developed and sharpened over time. With practice—through mindfulness, paying attention to your feelings, reflecting on past experiences, and even tarot reading—you can learn to trust and refine your intuition. Think of intuition as a muscle: born with some strength, but capable of growing stronger with deliberate exercise!

How to Use Your Intuition in your Tarot Readings

Unlocking your intuition is like turning on a secret superpower during Tarot readings. Here’s how to tap into that mystical sixth sense and let your inner voice guide the cards:

  1. Quiet Your Mind
Before shuffling, take a few deep breaths. Clear away distractions like a mental broom. A calm mind makes intuitive whispers easier to hear.

  2. Feel the Cards
Hold the deck in your hands. Notice the texture, weight, and temperature. Let the energy of the cards mingle with yours—you might even “feel” a card calling out to you.

  3. Trust Your First Impressions
When you lay down a card, don’t overthink it. The first word, image, or feeling that pops into your head is usually your intuition talking. Jot it down!

  4. Listen to Your Body
Your gut often speaks louder than words. Pay attention to physical sensations—tingles, “butterflies,” or a sudden chill—these can be clues to deeper meanings.

  5. Ask Open-Ended Questions
Instead of yes/no queries, dive deeper with questions like “What should I know about this situation?” This invites your intuition to unfold rich stories.

  6. Practice Regularly
Just like any skill, intuition gets stronger with practice. Draw a daily card and write down your intuitive hits—even if they seem off at first. Patterns emerge over time.

  7. Embrace Symbols & Storytelling
Don’t just read the card meaning—build a story around the images. Your subconscious loves weaving narratives, which is the magic of intuition at work.

Remember, intuition isn’t about psychic perfection—it’s about playful trust in yourself. Read with heart, and watch your Tarot readings come alive with surprising wisdom!
