Self Care Tarot Spread

Tarot as a form of Self-Soothing

Self-soothing is a concept I was unfamiliar with in my younger days, although I engaged in it a lot, mostly through less than healthy means such as alcohol. It wasn't until someone coined the phrase for me that it dawned on me what my behavior was really about. Just soothing myself.

This world has a tendency to leave us frazzled and exhausted. Many are also carrying a heavy load of trauma from the past. Struggling to achieve something, to reach our goals. The routine of rushing around from one daily task to the next leaves precious little time to just be.

We all need time to reflect on the day and to consider what we are doing and why.

Which is where Tarot comes in. While I try to meditate often, my overactive mind is often difficult to settle. Thoughts rushing in, either ruminations of the past, or excited new plans and ideas for the future. Mundane thoughts like, I should really wash some laundry now…Gotta get going on my taxes. Prompting me to leave my seat and rush around in a new flurry of activity.

“Simply witness these thoughts go by, but do not attach.” was the advice I’ve recieved. But some days this is easier said than done.

My Tarot practice helps with this. When I am unable to quiet my mind, Tarot offers a way to focus and direct my thoughts in a positive way. It gives me a point of focus outside of my own thoughts. A new perspective. It's soothing. Like talking with a dear old friend who never judges, but simply listens and offers gentle suggestions to nudge me in the direction that I want to go. The Tarot leaves space for me to soothe myself and to consider what I really desire and want in my life amidst the chaos of demands presented by others and by my own physical needs.

Today I prompt you to take a few quiet, reflective moments to yourself. Slow your thoughts, and think about what area of your life requires soothing. Draw some cards to reflect on this. Ask questions like: Is there something I could give up, or move towards that would help me to feel better.

Today’s suggested reading - try your own self care Tarot spread for soothing your mind. Make this your focus. Just feeling better. We could all use a few moments in the day where we feel better, try using the Tarot to lean in that direction. Your nervous system will thank you.

This self care tarot spread is simple - draw 4 cards. Place them according to how you feel, creating a narrative that inspires you towards feeling better. The four cards:

  1. What do I want/need?

  2. Message from my higher self

  3. What should I let go of?

  4. What should I focus on?

Here’s my spread for the day:

  1. I need a fresh start, new ideas, I long for adventure.

  2. The message I receive is to remain positive & hopeful. Good news is on the way

  3. The Moon is asking me to release my fears and trauma.

  4. I should focus on the work I enjoy doing to keep my mind directed in a positive way, and to move closer towards my goals.

Try your own draw if you are in need of some self care and encouragement from the Universe. This spread is best done with an physical deck, as you will be placing the drawn cards in the slots that feel best to you and the messages will be highly personal. But you can certainly use the virtual deck if you don't have you own. If you are new to Tarot and dont know the card meanings that’s ok too. Just read intuitively based on what you feel when looking at each card.

Self-Care Ritual:

  • Daily Affirmation: Start each day with a positive affirmation that resonates with you, such as “I am worthy of love and care.”

  • Creative Expression: Find a creative outlet—draw, write, or dance! Let your energies flow freely.

  • Nature Walk: Spend time outdoors, even if it’s just for a quick walk. Nature can rejuvenate your spirit!

  • Mindfulness Practice: Dedicate a few minutes daily to mindfulness through meditation or deep breathing exercises.

Post your reading in the comments below if you would like to share.

What is Intuition?

What is intuition?

We have all heard this many times when learning to read Tarot cards, “Just use your intuition.” but what exactly does this mean? What is an intuitive person, and how does one tap into that inner wisdom…

What is Intuition?

Intuition is that quiet inner voice, a subtle knowing that doesn’t come from logic or reasoning but from a deeper part of ourselves. When people say, “Just use your intuition” in Tarot reading, they’re encouraging you to trust this inner sense rather than overthink the cards or rely only on traditional meanings.

An intuitive person is someone who’s in tune with their feelings, impressions, and subtle energies around them. They pick up on nuances others might miss—whether it’s a fleeting image, a sudden feeling, or an unexpected insight. Intuition bypasses the conscious mind and taps directly into inner wisdom, often revealing truths that rational thought can't grasp.

To tap into your intuition, start by quieting your mental chatter. Relax, breathe deeply, and tune into the present moment. When you draw a card, don’t just read the dictionary meaning; instead, pay attention to the images, colours, and your immediate emotional response. Ask yourself: what does this card feel like? Do any memories, symbols, or ideas suddenly flicker in your mind?

Practising mindfulness and journaling your impressions can strengthen your intuitive muscle. Over time, you’ll notice your gut feelings becoming clearer and more reliable. Trusting your intuition doesn’t mean ignoring logic—it means honouring both heart and mind as partners in understanding the Tarot’s messages.

What is an intuitive person?

What is an intuitive person?

An intuitive person is someone who naturally senses or understands things without the need for conscious reasoning. They often pick up on subtle cues, feelings, or insights that others might miss, almost like a sixth sense guiding their decisions.

Is intuition something we’re born with? Partly, yes—some people seem to have a natural knack for tuning into their inner voice or the vibes around them from an early age. But intuition is also very much a skill that can be developed and sharpened over time. With practice—through mindfulness, paying attention to your feelings, reflecting on past experiences, and even tarot reading—you can learn to trust and refine your intuition. Think of intuition as a muscle: born with some strength, but capable of growing stronger with deliberate exercise!

How to Use Your Intuition in your Tarot Readings

Unlocking your intuition is like turning on a secret superpower during Tarot readings. Here’s how to tap into that mystical sixth sense and let your inner voice guide the cards:

  1. Quiet Your Mind
Before shuffling, take a few deep breaths. Clear away distractions like a mental broom. A calm mind makes intuitive whispers easier to hear.

  2. Feel the Cards
Hold the deck in your hands. Notice the texture, weight, and temperature. Let the energy of the cards mingle with yours—you might even “feel” a card calling out to you.

  3. Trust Your First Impressions
When you lay down a card, don’t overthink it. The first word, image, or feeling that pops into your head is usually your intuition talking. Jot it down!

  4. Listen to Your Body
Your gut often speaks louder than words. Pay attention to physical sensations—tingles, “butterflies,” or a sudden chill—these can be clues to deeper meanings.

  5. Ask Open-Ended Questions
Instead of yes/no queries, dive deeper with questions like “What should I know about this situation?” This invites your intuition to unfold rich stories.

  6. Practice Regularly
Just like any skill, intuition gets stronger with practice. Draw a daily card and write down your intuitive hits—even if they seem off at first. Patterns emerge over time.

  7. Embrace Symbols & Storytelling
Don’t just read the card meaning—build a story around the images. Your subconscious loves weaving narratives, which is the magic of intuition at work.

Remember, intuition isn’t about psychic perfection—it’s about playful trust in yourself. Read with heart, and watch your Tarot readings come alive with surprising wisdom!

Favorite tarot Deck

Place this deck somewhere you’ll see it often—your desk, bedside table, or even near your morning coffee spot. The cards become a playful little anchor, nudging you to pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself amid the whirlwind of daily tasks and to-do lists.

Every single glimpse at your deck gently whispers, “Stay grounded. Create Space for your Daily Tarot Practice

You might consider taking it a step further and creating a dedicated nook in your home for Tarot. This is like giving your practice a cozy little heart. Find a spot—a desk, a table, or even a shelf—that can be your sacred space. Deck it out with your favourite things: your Tarot deck(s) takes centre stage, surrounded by candles or objects that set a magical mood. Add some crystals that resonate with your energy, incense to clear the air, and any pictures or ornaments that spark inspiration. Maybe throw in a well-loved book or two for reference and reflection.

The key is to make it beautiful and meaningful—a spot that invites you to pause, connect, and let the cards speak. Your personal Tarot altar becomes more than just a space; it’s your daily invitation to explore, dream, and uncover what the cards have in store for you. Embrace the ritual, and watch how your readings deepen with this little sanctuary just for you.

Establishing a Daily Tarot Ritual

Pairing your daily tarot practice with an existing habit is a brilliant way to build consistency — like magic on autopilot! Imagine this: you brew your morning tea or coffee, and while the kettle steeps, you shuffle your deck. As you pour, you draw your daily card and take a few quiet moments to set intentions with your new oracle friend. This anchors your practice to a ritual you already cherish.

Maybe evenings work better for you. After brushing your teeth, pull a card to reflect on the day’s lessons and prepare your mind for restful sleep. Or, if you commute by train or bus, keep a pocket deck handy to draw a card and meditate, turning travel time into sacred self-care.

The key is to find what naturally fits your rhythm. Whether it’s the buzz of your morning alarm, the lunch break, or bedtime, linking tarot to your daily routine transforms reading cards from a ‘maybe’ into a joyful habit that grounds and guides you every single day.

How to Practice Tarot Daily

Draw your card, and take a moment to fully absorb the imagery and symbols before you. Notice the colours, figures, and subtle details of your card. How does it speak to you? Does it stir a sense of calm, excitement, or perhaps a gentle nudge of caution? Let your intuition awaken as you connect these symbols to your current thoughts, emotions, or circumstances.

This isn’t about prediction or pressure—it’s about presence. By grounding yourself in the here and now, observing your spontaneous reactions without judgement, you open the door to deeper self-awareness. Each card acts as a kind companion, offering insight and reflection as you navigate your path. So, embrace this moment of mindfulness and let the tarot gently illuminate your journey.

Tarot for Healing

How to Use Tarot for Healing

Tarot isn’t just just for divination, it can also be a powerful tool for healing. Whether you're seeking to heal emotional wounds, gain clarity in times of confusion, or simply foster personal growth, here are some ways to harness the healing power of Tarot.

1. Set your intention for healing a particular aspect of your life.

Before you shuffle your cards, take a moment to set a clear, positive intention. What area of your life feels off-kilter? Are you looking to heal from heartache, boost your self-esteem, or find peace in a chaotic situation? Crafting a specific intention can help you focus your reading and tap into healing energies.

2. Choose a Spread

Selecting a spread tailored to your healing needs can illuminate underlying issues and guide you toward resolutions. Here are a couple of suggestions:

Four Elements Spread: Each card represents Earth (physical), Air (mental), Water (emotional), and Fire (spiritual) to give you a holistic view of your current state.

The Healing Journey Spread: A simple layout involving four cards:

  1. Your current state.

  2. What you need to release.

  3. What you need to embrace.

  4. Guidance for your journey forward.

3. Reflect on the Cards

Once you lay out your spread, take time to meditate on the meaning of each card. Don’t rush! Consider how each card resonates with your personal experiences and emotions. Acknowledge any feelings that arise—this is part of the healing process. Journaling your thoughts can also be a great way to document your feelings and insights.

4. Practice Self-Compassion

Healing isn’t linear, and while Tarot can shine a light on your path, it’s essential to approach your journey with kindness. Allow yourself to feel any discomfort that surfaces and remind yourself that it’s okay to be a work in progress. Embrace each card's message, whether it’s challenging or uplifting, with an open heart.

5. Incorporate Rituals

Enhance your healing experience with rituals. Ask your Spirit guides for assistance in healing. Light a candle, burn incense, or play soothing music while you read. Create a calming environment that invites peace and introspection. This sensory engagement can deepen your connection to the cards and aid in your healing.

6. Follow Up with Action

Once you’ve gleaned insights from your tarot reading, consider actionable steps you can take toward healing. Whether it’s journaling about your feelings, seeking therapy, or practicing affirmations based on the cards, turning insights into actions helps create tangible change. Simply becoming aware of the issue can be all you need to consciously shift your focus onto finding a positive and healing solution.

7. Regular Check-ins

Make tarot a part of your ongoing healing practice. Regularly pull cards to see how your energy shifts over time. This can be a beautiful way to track progress, reveal new layers of healing, and re-align your intentions.

Embrace the Journey

Remember, tarot is a supportive guide rather than a definitive answer. Use it to illuminate your path, encourage growth, and foster healing, while understanding that you hold the power to create the change you seek. Embrace the playful nature of the cards, and enjoy the journey!
